UN calls for 233 million USD in Libya aid

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/world/2011-05/19/c_13881883.htm

The United Nations has called upon an additional 233million dollars in help of 2.1 million people affected by the violence in Libya.  The violence has caused the loss of millions of dollars everyday in Libya.  The destruction of buildings, the shortage of cash and the scarce oil has caused Libya and its civilians to desperately plead for help.  The scarce money and oil is affecting everyone, and the poorest of the poor are being effected by it the most.  There has been a previous fund of money shipped out to Libya, reaching 160 million dollars in march.  The fund that has been proposed this time will hopefully keep and maintain Libya stable for the most part until September.  It seems that many people have been fleeing libya, while many still want money to be spent on improving the country.

Pakistani troops fire at Nato copters after airspace breach

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/Pakistani-troops-fire-at-Nato-copters-after-airspace-breach/articleshow/8406896.cms

Pakistani troops opened fire at two helicopters that were drawn to be from NATO.  This lead to a brief fire fight between the troops and NATO forces, resulting in the troops being wounded.  The location of this event took place in Admi Kot Post, (northern territory in Pakistan).  The issue that the Troops had was the simple fact that the NATO helicopters had crossed from Afghanistan into Pakistan.  The Osama Bin Laden raid earlier this month, has lead to Pakistan being on high notice for every little action towards their country.  Pakistan and NATO have been feuding since last September as NATO killed two Pakistani troops in a so called "clash".  Knowing there is conflict between the USA and Pakistan has lead Senator John Kerry to Pakistan in an attempt to ease the conflict between the two.  The mini military conflict between Pakistan and NATO has not necessarily made things easier in the relationship with the United States.

NFL owners win legal round as appellate court grants stay for lockout

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-nfl-lockout-20110517,0,5985485.story

The continous battle between the NFL Players Association and the Owners has been going on since mid february, hense the  lockout is in its third month of no activity.  The Owners won today, enforcing the continuation of the lockout.  The Grand Prize of nine billion dollars is being fought over by the two sides, and as each day progresses, no deals seem to be getting negotiated.  Its simple, all the players want to do is play, but behind the scenes still want there pay check.  The owners have no problem in paying the players, the owners main objective is to find a way to divide nine billion dollars in several compelling issues including health care for retired players and tv sales.  The Lockout prevents players and coaches from doing their job, and the rookies are being denied their chance of pr acting with their new teams and learning their roles on there teams.

Osama bin Laden sought 'new 9/11' to force US out of Middle East

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/12/osama-bin-laden-new-9-11-middle-east

Osama Bin Laden was planning a huge/impactful terrorist attack on the united states, that would leave America no choice but to leave middle east.  In their way of protesting american activity and participation in the middle east, osama wanted such an event to occur, he also stated that if they were to commit mini terror acts, it wouldnt have such an impact as one well thought out event.  Intelligence gathered by the osama bin laden raid, found out that he was planning an attack on us trains and subways, but those plans really never got out of the initial talks.

Senior Senator John Kerry said he will visit Pakistan next week.  He knows the tension between the United States and Pakistan is rather tight, regarding the controversial raid of Osama Bin Laden.  He says what better way to try and work things out is by actually having talks.  John Kerry knows a thing or two about Pakistan.  Hilary Clinton will probably make a visit to the Middle East pretty soon.  John Kerry will travel to the white house before he makes way towards middle east.  John Kerry says the death of osama bin laden will hopefully put America on the right track to withdrawing soldiers from afghan.

U.S. Braced for Fights With Pakistanis in Bin Laden Raid..!

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/10/world/asia/10intel.html

There has been a sense of criticism towards the way Obama and the Seal team handled the raid of former Al-Qaeda Leader Osama Bin Laden.  Obama essentially risked the Seal team being in combat with Pakistan Military/Authorities.  The United States did not make it clear to the Pakistanis that they were going to potentially raid the location of Osama Bin Laden.  Obama did not want any Pakistanis in this effort, did not want to risk history repeating itself (bay of pigs in Cuba in the 1960s.)  Obama was prepared for the potential combat with pakistani military, and had two more helicopters stationed in afghan ready for any backup once called upon.  Obama knowing he could have caused tension between the United States and Pakistan, looked risk in the face and went on with the mission of killing Osama Bin Laden, at all costs.

Colin Powell: Obama blew away the birthers

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110507/ap_on_re_us/us_powell_trump

Colin Powell, had a presentation at some historical black university.  In which he stated that these graduates have had some famous news leading up to their graduation.  He said that they have been caught up in famous world news like The Royal Wedding, and the assassination of Osama Bin Laden.  Colin then said a intresting comment, ""That was when President Obama took out his birth certificate and blew away Donald Trump and all the birthers!"  Now i believe that is true, its going to be very diffucult for anyone to beat out Barack Obama in the next presidential election.

Info from Osama raid shows interest in US trains

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_bin_laden_rail_threat

The aftermath of osama death...  When the raid took place, apparently there were plans on committing a terror act on the 10th anniversary of September 11.  Al-Qaeda essentially were "considering" attacking trains.  This "plan" was the first informed rumor/speculation since the osama death.  They had begun talks in February 2010, but never went on with the talks.  In 2009, there was a report that they were considering bombing the New York subway station.  The US intelligence is constantly over watching possible terror acts.

He is on the Riyadh's most wanted list  Khaled called the authorities and said he wanted to come home, the accuracy of what he is being tried for is yet to be determined but he has turned himself in.  There is rumour that he could be a brother or relative to mohammed, another wanted terrorist.

Our class discussion about immigration i believe went well.  People brought up interesting points and they had there followups towards the points.  There were opinionated solutions to immigration, but in all honesty immigration is a very tough topic to please everyone.  Issues like jobs, education, drugs, "American dreams" were brought up.  I believe one reason why immigration is so tough to deal with is because of peoples racism towards other nationalities. One thing for sure is that the United States Economy would lose money if all immigrants were removed from this country, but peoples racism makes them not think about the benfit that immigrants do to this nation.  As for the discussion, i respected everyone's thoughts and opinions towards the issue but just like our discussion people have been debating this issue for quite some time and it really picked up last year.  We can dispute all we want, because this topic isn't going anywhere.

Investigators find black box from Air France crash

Back in 2009, a French airplane went down, killing 228 people.  Two years later, investigators have found the black box that could help them identify why the aircraft went down.  The investigators say that they dont really know if the black box will even put in good use because of all the pressure from the sea level, two years of pressure.  There was a thunderstorm that lead to the crash, but they still want more details.  Bodies of victims were also found under the sea.

Immigration and the Economy..!

http://www.aclu.org/immigrants-rights/immigrants-and-economy

I was researching immigration, and i came upon this article.  It has great facts about immigrants and our economy, they hit the nail on the coffin.  "Immigrants pay more than $90 billion in taxes every year and receive only $5 billion in welfare. Without their contributions to the public treasury, the economy would suffer enormous losses."  If immigrants are helping the economy, why do americans want them out? They also help out new business and spend their money on american goods, but yet people want immigrants out of this country for various reasons, blaming them on the "draining the economy and taking jobs away" is absurd and should be looked at by the ignorant people.

MLB takes over operation of Los Angeles Dodgers

http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_17892957?source=rss

MLB has taking over the front office of the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Frank Mccourt the remaining dodger owner, had divorced his wife in October of 2009 and the Dodgers have been losing money and declining in the ranks of the richest teams.  Jamie and Frank share the Dodger's and Bud Selig is concerned about the Dodgers so he will manage the dodgers.  Bud wants nothing but the best for the Dodgers, and he feels like this move will help the Dodgers get back on track, finically.  The Dodgers havent won the World Series since 1988, and they are below 500 in this short season.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110324/us_yblog_thelookout/wwii-vet-discovers-hes-not-a-u-s-citizen

Leeland Davidson, a ninety-five year old WW2 veteran, just recently discovered he was not a US citizen.  Almost living in the country for one hundred years, and serving in the navy, he was on a trip going up north to Canada when an officer turned him down for having an enhanced drivers license. Leeland was born in British Columbia in 1916 and when his family moved to the United States, they never registered him to the government.  At the time of enrollment to the navy, an officer said it was no big deal so Leeland just kept on keeping on.  His parents were born in the united states in the 1800's, but the US didn't keep track back then so its hard to acknowledge his parents were born there.  He was told if he pursues this, he could be deported and stripped of his social security.

Class Discussion Reflection..

Overall, i think our class discussion went pretty well.  A lot of the issues that are holding reform back were indeed mentioned and thought of throughout  the discussion.  I thought it was interesting how Matt said that his former charter school was more uptight with him and his grades and appose to hear where most of the times teachers aren't like that here.  He also mentioned how he thinks this school is more easier in how the subjects are taught and that may lead to average scores on tests etc.  Another topic that i thought was interesting was the double school, split the school in day and night sessions, similar to college.  Many people seemed like they didn't like the idea, i personally wouldn't mind, but i came to a quick conclusion that it would just make things more chaotic and unorganized.  The typical student in our school is a rather average lazy student.  They have the potential, ( anyone does) to receive excellent grades, but they take it for granted and want to simply ease through high-school.  Granted, no one is perfect and i admit there have been classes in my past and in my present that i could do much better in and i know i can, but i simply dont achieve it.  Then when i realize it, its potentially to late.

Criminal Record for Bus Driver..!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42070669/ns/us_news-life/

The bus driver who crashed the bus killing fifteen people apparently had criminal records in the past.  Ophadell Williams the forty year old driver, had been charged with other felonies in his past.  His most recent incident was in 2003 for driving with a suspended license and stolen police radios.  The year before that he was completing a three year sentence for grand larceny in which he removed a 83,905 dollar check from a Police Athletic League Fund.  In 1987, he was arrested for trying to get on a bus without paying.  Through the years, Williams has been involved with the law and wasnt  the brightest person to trust in driving a bus.  I don't personally know if he had changed his life around and been going on the right track, but he was the driver that killed 15 people.

NFL LOCKOUT..!

The NFL Owners and the Players Union entered a lockout, despite weeks and weeks of meetings.  This is the first work stoppage in the Nfl since 1987.  Its rather unfortunate, because of the popularity that the sport brings, and potentially no football in the 2011-2012 season.  The leagues most famous players Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are suing NFL owners in an attempt to possibly get an agreement done.  There are many topics that are talked about in those meetings, how will the league divide 9 billion dollars, a proposed 18 game schedule, and health care benfits for retired players.  All in All, it is a very difficult process for both sides to agree on.

SOTU Words..!

1. When Obama finished his speech, it left me with a sign of HOPE, that America will get better in many forms of life.

10.  To APPRECIATE those people that go out of their way to help you in your struggles and to appreciate those teachers who educate you and teach you to be a good person in life.

11. To ACKNOWLEDGE those people that are making history, and to honor those people that are making impacts in their schools.  Like the Science Fair winners and Decathlon students.

12.  America is constantly INNOVATING, and theirs no reason why they should stop.  As other countries innovate, America will continue to innovate and make potential profits.

18.  Keeping the FAITH that America will improve in areas like education, jobs and health care.

19.  Hearing how Obama wants to improve America, brings JOY that it will happen.

20.  Perhaps the ANGER, that the Republicans feel towards Obama's Health Care and how Obama States he will not veto it.

21.  After Obama's Speech it also left me CONTENT, I wanted him to address a good amount of time towards jobs but he only stated a few sentences.

26.  Sad to see how Americans have STRUGGLED to make money and get good education.  Struggling to live a better life in these hardships.

27.  Obamas Race to the Top, MOTIVATES students to do well in school and as responsible teenagers.  Motivates people to do their very best in everything that they do.

28.  Obama said that other countries are doing good in schools, work and technology.  Leads me to believe that COMPETITION to be number one will take place.

Class Discussion Reflection

This past Friday, our class had a discussion on the Health Care Reform.  Many issues were made by different people and their perspectives on the issue.  How the health care reform will create jobs was a good question that was brought up.  An idea that i heard that really stood out to me was the fact that perhaps obama should have tried to fix the economy first then the health care reform.  My point is why are we debating on how we can pay the health care for everyone, when we are constantly wasting billions of dollars in war on a weekly/ monthly basis.  Obama stated that starting in July he will start clearing troops out of Iraq and Afghan, i say why cant he just start now? why are there so much soldiers still over there? America can save billions of dollars and use that for health care by withdrawing soldiers from war.

Guns being bought in USA and used in Mexico

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41257218/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/

Drug Cartels have been in war with other cartels and the Mexican government.  It is reported that many drug traffickers from various cartels have been buying weapons in local Arizona gun shops.  On Tuesday morning, cops arrested 20 people who are suspected of illegally buying AK-47's.  It is a very controversial topic because about 3 weeks ago a "lunatic" shot and killed/wounded many people with his purchased glock.  Perhaps those actions and know these people being arrested, maybe the armed law will be appealed.

Senator Joe Lieberman  (68) will not run for his 5th term.  He was defeated in 2006 and then ran as an interdependent and won the job.  Perhaps old age was the reason for his decision.
